At the end of the war, Germany produced a cheap 9mm submachine gun closely based on the sten except with a vertical magazine. I am including some pictures and information. This would make a nice build in semi as a rare gun with simple manufacturing techniques.

More images. This gun was found in a cellar more than 50 years after the war. No marking. Note simple welded assembly and easy to manufacture internals.

the second photo, of the german officer, he's holding a captured STEN Mk II with the magazine well rotated to the dust cover position... note the spring loaded ratchet and catch for the barrel nut instead of the sling loop on the MP3008
The third gun looks like one as well, but with the ejection port section opened up as a conversion to vertical feed...

Saw this photo in Michael Heidler article about stens for the Volkssturm. Description says "SS-Obergruppenführer Artur Phleps, commander of 7th SS-Volunteer Division "Prinz Eugen", looking at captured in Yugoslavia air-drop Sten with magwell turned in transport position" (sorry for poor translation).
Same article is full of other great photos/illustrations(will try to scan some of them later) and even better text
