A few years back I built an AK bullpup by just making new wood furniture modeled after the P90.  The front trigger is connected back to the original trigger using one string of thin music wire, which actually makes for a pretty good trigger once you adjust all the slack out!

I put too much slope on the back end, though, so the thing tends to ride up your shoulder as you fire.  I also got nicked in the cheek by an empty case once, so I spot-welded on a shell deflector over the ejection port.

I always wanted to make a circular sling that wrapped around one shoulder, so you could carry it comfortably hanging down, and just pivot the rifle up on target.

some pen pusher found out that the specs on paper sound so good this configuration must be the way forward, now it's fashionable. It works on ranges, and for troops that don't plan on using the thing.

In the real world it's butt heavy, un-balanced and awkward to point and shoot, and change mags.

when i was in the Army ( British Paras) i had a friend of mine who was also a gun nut, we happened to have an SA80 and an standard old style iron sighted M16 to hand, on a blank firing exersize, so we set up a little test , and advanced toward each other through some trees, every time i could get my M16 safety off and to fire as it came up, and accuratly double tap my opponent before he even got a sight picture. If it came to a mag change for both of us he had to crawl into cover, look down to the mag well to see what he was doing, while i knelt down dropped my mag out , and put a fresh one on, in one fluid movement, and then " killed " him at my leisure.

In my humble opinion bullpups are not the way forward for front line well trained soldiers. The issue has never arisen because in recent times weve never fought against a skilled enemy.

Speaking form similar experience, with the L85A1.

I'll second all of the above.

Given the choice I'd always go for a conventional layout design. AR/AK/M14/FAL/G3 etc.

Case of that cartridge was based on 22WMR, and looked almost identical to one of 17HMR, yet 4.5x26 was almost twice as powerful.
