Hello,
Recently I became interested in building a 1911 and thought it would be fun to start with a 60% receiver. However the only source I've found is vbd.com and from what I've read in other forums, this price is a bit steep. Is there somewhere that has them for less?
-Thanks, OrenG

Oren,
We had a bloke some time back selling 60% or so, receivers here on Weaponeer. I got one, and it looks great! If some one remembers the thread, I am sure they will link it...
I recall he was doing another batch with different steel.
Good luck, and don't forget to post pics!!

Those are 80% frames and i don't think anyone else has been making them for quite a while, KT Ordnance has them for 300.00.
While pricey you have to remember that there is a lot of machining to produce a finished frame and then the heat treating that has to be done. All that needs to be done on a 80% frame is to cut the slide rails, mill the barrel saddle, and drill a couple of holes. Everything else is done for you including the heat treating, check out the forum on, http://weaponeer.net/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=10185&PN= 1 and this will give you an idea of how much work is involved... You could go out and buy one through an FFL dealer cheaper but not as satisfying as building one yourself...

Hey OrenG, I have been buying from a guy that is supposed to be getting a bunch in soon. They ARE 60%ers NOT 80% (80s no longer exist) so be aware that they take a bit of precision in cutting rails and such but thats the most challenging part. I will mail him tonight and see what he has. He has been reliable for several years and it aint KT and their wierd pay with gold and silver crap or Sarco out of specs junk. It is another source and good quality.

Thanks for the reply. I managed to find one for a bit less on ar15 plus: http://www.vbd.com//noc/shop/products_detail.asp?CategoryID =44&ProductID=143
Looks to be of the same quality and is even strictly GI 1911 kosher unlike the KT ord version.
