I recently came across a “compact or Shorty” Sten MK II reviver tube blank. Can someone tell me if a standard Sten MK II parts kit can be used to make a “compact or Shorty” Sten? I am very new to Sten’s and need help understanding what a “compact or Shorty” Sten is. Please advise.

far as I know, it just shortens the length of travel the bolt has available, there by increasing the ROF. Here are two shorty versions I've seen...

I believe the "standard" short etmplate makes a MKII tube about 1.5" to 2" shorter than the standard length.

hi rmj and blurry, mine and another guy named n gunner are the shortest i have seen. a long time ago i book marked a page for a mini sten but it has been dead for 3-4 yrs. mine is 14" iirc. the next one i do will be a vertical mag w/ a 2" shorter barrel which i think is the shortest i would want to go. tube length was determined by modified bolt and the length of bolt travel to eject and load next round.

the original guide rod hole that is so nicely drilled in the 3rd pic from bottom, had to be opened up to fit spring of longer length and wider dia. that is why it looks so bad in the 2nd pic.

Thank you all very much for explaining to me what a "compact / shorty" STEN is. Now I understand the difference between a standard and a compact.

Ok, so i was recently at a gun show and picked up a mkii tube, when i got home realized it was the compact or shorty version. Its the tube with the template adheared to it that you see sold from various online sites. i think its just an inch or two shorter than the standard mkii...
tricky... you state that on your build, the overall tube length was dictated by how short you went with your bolt.
what about with the shorty tubes available like the one i got? Can a mkii parts kit work in it without bolt/spring/etc shortening and modifications?
Im hoping to build one without having to work on a hardened bolt.
any links or info to help with this build? Been researching for days and cannot find much info. Thanks
