It seems that all the rebuilds I see show a 16 inch barrel. Is the standard lenth barrel that comes with the part kit ok.

There are rules to follow depending on weather you are building a pistol or rifle. If building a rifle then yes, at least 16 inch barrel. Also, if building a rifle, then you must be sure to use no more then 10 foriegn made parts in the weapon, the rest have to be american made.
Also, if building a rifle and it has a folding stock, it must be 26" or longer when the stock is folded.

and just to be clear. Parts kit's, with original barrels, need to have the barrel replaced with a 16 inch barrel (everyone tends to use 16.5) or a barrel extension of that length welded in place.
for a sten, you can weld on an extension that looks like a suppressor for a better look.
