Might be a bumb question but could I mount a pistol grip instead of a stock and then not worry about SBR rules? I should add is it legal? I don't want any issues with the brown shirts!

One of the issues i can see is that, when you do that, it has to be made in such a way as to NOT be able to accept a butstock at all......ever.
I hear what your saying, and i think that would be legal, IF you could figure out a way to do it like i said.
But, just because you mounted a pistol grip instead of the stock, if i could remove the wood and replace it with an original one then it is in violation.

I'm still looking for information on the subject. I wonder how to thompson center gets away with the encore? Anything to do with it being a single shot?

What about the ruger charger it has a ten round mag or if you have the 25 or 50 with the pistol grip.

Below is a concept (sort of) for a M31 pistol build with more of the cool MP-40 look. The barrel and shroud would be shortened by 3'' or so for better looks and balance. AK grip. I'm putting this out to inspire some of you since I have a bunch of these kits to unload.

Did some more dreaming - see the 2 pics below. This receiver is typical of the ones I have - actually a bit better than average since the nose piece lugs are intact. I ground out and inserted the FCG into the frame and CUT 2.5 " OUT OF THE SHROUD! This would bring the barrel back to about 10" which is about the same as my new PPS-43C ($270 at Classic Arms) shown for comparison. Cut the shroud just forward of the sling mount which eliminates one whole group of slots. I have always been impressed by the M31 shroud. It's big, heavy, and beautifully made. Also it lends a little of that sinister look - which we all love! I'm getting myself pumped up on this too.

Most C2 Manufactures get away with welding the stock in place in the close position. this makes it so a stock cannot be added, and the stock, cannot be opened. simple fix for the basic pistol build

The stock tang would be removed leaving 3 holes in the receiver which could be used for a pistol grip mount and conceivably could be converted back to a stock but what would be the point? The whole idea was to get rid of the stock to get something more intriguing. This would be a unique build.

ATF recently ruled that a parts kit built as a pistol can be converted to a Rifle, then back to a pistol
Having the capability or parts to build an SBR is no longer constructive intent, the weapon must be built for a crime to be commited.

I have attached a picture of a M-31 with a 7 inch barrel, 2 inch shorter receiver, and pistol grip. It took a lot of mods to make it work right, but it was a fun project.
