My first build, but how easy are others?

So about six months ago, I finished up my very own Kalashnikov style rifle. AKM would be the proper designation I suppose.

It made me all warm and fuzzy inside when I finally shot the thing. It kinda got me hooked on firearm building and I have already started my next build.

But a question that I have had for sometime now: How difficult are most gun builds? I can guess that they will not be as easy as my AK, but you know. For instance, how difficult is an AR or some other assault rifle?

Minimum age is 13 for this forum according to the rules or what not I read when I signed up, so it's cool with you all that I'm 15 and I built this thing, right? (technically making it my mothers gun, but whatever)

As far as i know it is. I do not see a problem with it as long as your parents approve of it and you built it with the proper amount of USA made parts to be compliant with the 922r law.

As far as i know an adult can purchase a firearm for their kids, and the kids can use them as long as they are surpervised by an adult?

Judging from the pictures it looks as though you have complied if you used the USA made hammer trigger and sear.

It looks great!

Other kits can be very hard. The AR15 is actually pretty easy to build.

What are you thinking about building?

Anyone else know about this topic for sure?

Yes, it is compliant. I discovered that it needed to be AFTER I had put the thing together with the wood grips that came with it. So for Christmas I asked what any kid would ask for, parts to make it compliant.

As for my next build, I was thinking either an AR (Not entirely fond of them, they seem very common here in America-land), A H&K G3 or some variant of that, maybe an AKS-74U (minus the stock), or maybe something around the lines of a FAL.

Whatever it is, I don't want it be inexplicably expensive or require much machining. All I have access to is a press, TIG and MIG welders, a drill press, various engine parts, and a couple tools at my school. I can probably find other people that have various other things, however.

Sounds like you have been doing some research! I am fond of the FAL. It is expensive though. I guess now days, they all are getting that way!

Whichever one you decide to do, make sure that you are compliant with the "20 parts rule" (922r). And be sure that it will only operate semi auto. We always have to be sure to be compliant with the laws. Federal and state.

Some builds also require certain features to prevent original full auto parts from being installed.

Do your homework before building!

Hey Welcome to the forum!!
"Do your home work,,,,,, Do your homework Yada yadayada.
I'm sure at your age you hear it all the time,
HOWEVER!!!  You don't do your school homework and the teacher gets pissed off AND a note goes home.
You don't do your legal homework and uncle sam gets pissed off AND you  go to jail.
Just do a little reading around the forum and you will see that legal is a constant concern here. The reason is that the laws are sometimes hard to interpret and we don't want to make a mistake, laws are also different by state  so what applies in one state may not in another.

Now on to the good stuff
Very cool build, i'm not a fan of that style stock but hey its yous and not mine so its just an opinion.  There are alot of opinions here.
I have built several AK's and love every one of them.

AR's are an easy build and most all the stuff is American made so 922r
is not hard on this build.  PLUS anything you can think of is available for an AR.   I am not a fan of the AR system but i did build one with hot pink furniture. It looked kinda cool but i traded it for something better after a couple months.

FAL's are fairly simple with some research and one tool you will have to buy. most of the other tools you can make. Problem kits are getting short and are getting expensive. plus cheapest receiver   you will find is about $300. 922r parts are avlb. some are expensive.

Look into an M1 carbine. There are alot of parts avlb. so the cost is equel
to the quality of the parts. Lots of reproduction parts avlb. most American made so 922r still not a problem.

Man i wish i got started at your age, i was buying rifles with my dad at 16
but didn't start building till my late 20's.

Good luck with what ever choice you make and remember

If you don't have many tools... or access to them... the AR is the best kit built rifle to go with....

Good luck and welcome aboard!!
