Hey guys whats up! New guy here from USA CT. I have a question on the VZ58 bolt release that I picked up. This is going in a Checkpoint VZ and it going in just fine, its just it will not operate. You need a sledge hammer to operate this lever and that's if you even get the sledge hammer to move it.  Can anyone please inform me on what I am doing wrong (or missed) and if this is a problem with every VZ58 bolt release. Does it require a stronger spring to help push the lever down? It feels like its wedged and will not operate. I did try and contact weaponeer on his youtube page some months back, but you know how youtube is in letting you know you have private messages...they don't lol.

I had no issue when I installed mine, which was a direct replacement for the original.   My Vz58 was built from a parts kit...

I would check to see if you don't have any burs that are in the way, and preventing operation.

does it work when it's fully disassembled?

Hi Weaponeer, when you mean any burrs you mean inside where the lever is to be positioned or the lever itself? Would I need to ream out the hole a little? I went and smoothed the lever itself with some emerycloth, figuring that maybe it might be a bit thick. Still seems to be getting wedged or hung up on something, it just will not operate at all. Going to take another look at it this weekend, its been a while now. Thank you for responding.

Ok the first problem after taking a closer look at it was the lever was hitting the ambi- mag release. Man they didn't see this in the prints? Anyways, fixed that issue by a little grinding. Now I also saw that the lever itself needed to be filed...a lot. Talk about poor quality control. The lever was getting hung up on the receiver in the "U" channel of the lever. Did a little filing in there but I do not think it enough (I need to take a caliper to it). Because now the magazine, when empty and bolt closed, is pushing up in the lever and not allowing the bolt to open. Even when the bolt lever is holding back the bolt, the bolt is exerting a lot of pressure on the lever causing it to not function now....the tight "U" channel isn't helping either.

That's where I left it for now and will look at it again when I have more time. This should have been an easy install but quality control was lacking at NEA that day, I am guessing. Had a local forum member with the same firearm and purchased the bolt release and ambi mag release from Zahl and no issues.

I have always questioned Checkpoint vz58's

Mine was a Vz58 parts kit with a Ohio Rapid Fire receiver, and  everything has always fit mine as a drop in, with no modification. BUT, my parts came directly from North Eastern Arms *NEA* in Canada
.

Parts as follows:

http://northeasternarms.com/accessories/cz-858-vz-58/ambidex trous-magazine-release

http://northeasternarms.com/accessories/cz-858-vz-58/tactica l-bolt-release

http://northeasternarms.com/accessories/cz-858-vz-58/co-witn ess-upper-handguard-2

http://northeasternarms.com/accessories/cz-858-vz-58/co-witn ess-upper-handguard

http://northeasternarms.com/accessories/cz-858-vz-58/single- point-sling-plate

So I can only comment on the above parts which are CNC made and very high quality, installed on a Vz58 parts kit.

The Bolt Catch is a little sticky, but I'm pretty sure that is due to the parkerizing. The crystals add to the thickness, and can cause some drag until it's been broken in.

I would like to get the ambidextrous safety. and I wish they still made the rear scope mount with brass deflector.
