I started a post on the other gunsmithing sites and there seems to be little interest in the VG1-5 project. I have done serious research on this weapon for over a decade and am now in the process of building a number of them. I have elected to change the fire control mechanism to something that makes a little more since but everything else is like the original.
This project will be picture heavy. Not so much with set up, there will be some of that, but of design and the parts through the steps of manufacture.
So if some one can direct me to how to post pictures I will get started.

Yes! I've waited for a thread like this for months, you go man!

I assume you are located in the US.
Can you get reproduction magazines there or would you have to order them from Germany?

Is it possible to write and down load my pictures to office then down load it to this site. It would make it easier and I could put text and pictures in the correct context.

This is a solid model of the trigger mechanism. You will notice that I did not go with the original German design. This system is much simpler.

You can post more than one image per post but only if you link images using the left upload button.

To link an image you first have to upload it to an image hosting site.

We are making our own 10 round magazines for this rifle. The 30 rd mp-44 mags can be used as well.

Now on to the building of the rifle. This first set of picture will deal with the stamping of the lower receiver.

This is what it looks like after press and prior to machining.

Nice work so far, and I'm looking forward to seeing more of the project.

Wow, that's some pretty hardcore sheet metal work.

Most of the dies are simple dies and not progressive. Still, it is not an easy project. Thanks for the response. I really did not think anyone was following the build. We made a little progress on some machining today. Only shattered one 150.00 deep hole drill. I should have had a video camera for that.
