   Wait a minute. You're a Yakuza, ain't cha?

Sigh. Only the Brits & Germans would screw a bbl into the bbl shroud, instead of the receiver.

BACKBENCHER:
Well bless you that was quite a sneeze.  never really heard a sneeze starting with a Y but well ok...
The shroud was an extension of the receiver { but i'm sure you already know that}  This was all early tube gun design
And the AR-15 owes it's opening pivot point to these weapons since they were some of the 1st to do that  so there!!

Also thanks for moving the pics we couldn't get them to post.
Pics of Mrs Ryche are few and far between and she is not for sale anyway

Bought Guns of the 3rd Reich yesterday, enjoying it. The Lanchester was just a straight up copy of the MP28, IIRC, which was only a slightly improved version of the MP18 - which had a feature as a PDW only recently re-realized - the MP18 took unmodified pistol magazines, providing commonality btwn pistol & PDW!

Yep interesting run there.  They ended up modifying the MP-18 to a separate box mag because the Luger snail drum couldn't keep up with the speed of the weapon. It was also very bulky hanging out of the side of the gun. Also was a real pain in the butt to load.

The Lanchester was a straight up rip off of the MP-28. very few things were changed, mostly the barrel threads are slightly different and the way the barrel was locked in place.  The MP-28 used a lock screw in the front on the barrel face and the Lanchester used a lock screw on the back down through the mag housing.

Mags are interchangeable between the two and also went on to be Sten mags as well.  I have been lucky enough to find some MP28 mags in boxes of Sten mags at some of the gun shows.  There is just enough difference if you know what to look for.

The run of sub guns between the 20's and the mid 30's is really interesting. Bergman and Schmeisser were in their heyday at that time.  When the mp-38 came along that changed everything to faster and cheaper to build.  Alot of stampings and weldings. Much less machining.

Enjoy the book its a good one.
