I've had a design rolling around in my head for a while. A hybrid semi auto rifle with the mechanical simplicity of the sten mk3 and the increased range and accuracy of the FG42. It'll have a longer barrel than the sten, a higher mag capacity than the FG42, and a overall length somewhere in between the 2. I'd keep the round tubular design of the sten receiver but reinforced with a square tubing sleeve over that to deal with increased pressure and use the empty space between the layers of tubing for heat ventilation or possibly an internal silencer. I would chamber it for 7.92x33 or 7.92x57, have it side fed, with dovetail mounts, and a front Grip.

Any Ideas or Suggestions?

You mean something like Thompson Ramo Wooldridge:

or "Sterling" rifle:

?

Not exactly, but similar to the TRW.

Mechanical simplicity of the STEN, in 7.92x57mm?  It'll weigh 20 lbs, but ok.

20lbs would definitely cut down on muzzle climb.

Except that most of that weight is reciprocating mass.  Are you sure you want to go to mass-delayed blowback for 7.92x57mm?  The only weapon larger that uses mass-delayed blowback is the Mk 19 automatic grenade launcher.  And it's pintle mounted.

I didn't think about that, firing it would probably feel like firing 10ga slugs.

Your design has to have a locked or delayed breech, which requires precession engineering to be safe. An enlarged STEN with a roller delayed bolt would be simplest ?

The Sterling rifle prototype above was lever delayed.

My next question would be about your magazines.  There's only one magazine design for 7.92x33mm, and only a few for 7.92x57mm.

I was thinking FG42 Mags. I don't know how rare they are though.
