Only the Marine Corps is replacing the 249; the Army is keeping theirs.  And the IAR is on a bipod, same as the 249.  I don't think it's any more accurate than an M16A3.

its more accurate than a 249.. another reason marines say they like it is the bad guys cant easily tell which one of them is the machine gunner when everyone is carrying M4 style rifles

my biggest concern with belt feed though is its going to be a major ingress point of dirt and could jam if somethings holding the belt or the belt is too heavy

anyway, there are still more concerns that need to be addressed.. the spent links need a way of coming out(obviously they'll continue along in the drum and eject out the other side) however, they cannot fall out of the drum and into the action.. meaning the drum will have to be fitted to the link, and maybe a coupe slots will have to be cut in the drum so a ramp could kick them out (so they dont keep going around and around)

another problem is that a linked belt has a limitation on how much it can actually bend, i do need to figure out the range of motion and flexibility of a 249 belt to determine if the drum is a large enough radius

The IAR is certainly more accurate than a 249; the IAR is closed bolt.  I'm concerned about how long it can last in a firefight, however - there's no provision for bbl change.  Given the Marines and the Army are both changing over to the full auto M4A1, that may not be such a concern w/ full auto M855A1 coming out of 30 round mags from every squad member.
