I'm building a AK pistol on a budget. I just bought a front trunnion from a ras47 for what i thought was a good deal ($40). But now I read that some of these are cast and wont even last a mag. Did I mess up?

I had never heard about this so I did some Google research this morning.

I'd steer clear.

https://www.athensmachinetool.com/products/ak-front-trunnion
Brand new, 922 count, CNC machined from billet.
90 bucks.

I remember when they were 30 or 40 bucks each.

More searching reveals surplus prices in the 60-80 range. My face is worth 40 bucks to me, versus the medical bills when a round explodes because a lug broke and the bolt wasn't in battery.

I know Century's rifles are made to meet a price point, but if they were 'splodey even I would've heard about it.  All kinds of cast parts, including entire receivers, in the US firearms industry - you just about can't buy a Ruger that doesn't have a cast receiver.

Any reports of Century's cast trunnions actually cracking, or is this another case of it's not the way my grandfather's AK/Carbine/1911 was made!?

Wow.  I'd heard Century builds were hit or miss, but I had thought that was mostly tolerance screwups.  They can't get casting right?

I'd buy it if I were in your situation.
