Has anyone heard of this idea before. In a typical fin stabilized projectile, drag is utilized to maintain the direction a projectile is moving. In my idea, what if the fins were on the back of the round like a propeller, and the gas pressure pushing the projectile forward also rotated it due to the angle of the fins? I cannot find anything online if such an idea has been sought out before. Anyone?

Modern artillery shells utilize a gas bleed system to improve the aerodynamics of the shell, extending its range.

The rocket propelled projectiles of the Gyrojet had angled nozzles which spun the projectile, which is most similar to what you're proposing.

Like a gyrojet is what I was visualizing in my head except the projectile does not carry any fuel, it uses the expanding gas from the powder charge in the cartridge to impart spin.

I don't think it will spin much, as the gases at the base of the projectile are traveling with the projectile, not circulating.

Simple enough to test with a 20 or 12 ga slug, shotgun, & simple reloading setup.

I think you're going to have to design pop out fins, however.  Once you have pop-out fins, why spin it - just use the fins to direct it.
