This new engraving section is for displaying (and teaching) traditional engraving, as well as new forms of engraving such as laser and CNC.
traditional engraving is becoming a lost art, but just about anyone can learn it and do fairly well at it.
If enough people were interested in learning traditional engraving, we will try to get some "how to" articles on the basics, and potentially an engraving party to get people to do hands on engraving.

You might even think of asking Tommerr if he'd moderate this section, Gary. Just a thought.

Sign me up for the engraving party! Tommerr has told me in the past I could learn how to engrave. I have my doubts but would really like to be proved wrong!

I am looking forward to your techniques for transferring patterns. My kid is interested in etching some designs on plastic and I think this will help her get started.

Not for printing. She wants to engrave some old English letters on sun glass frames. I thought if there was an easy way to transfer patterns it would provide her all sorts of possibilities.

I am interested in this subject and am currently studying some good books on firearms engraving. I have done a very small amount of hand engraving and a lot of CNC engraving. I do some wax carving and jewellry engraving. I am glad to see this forum started. This should be interesting.

Might be interested but as I have said I would never mention engraving on this site again. I have decided I would treat this skill as I have others, self taught. And do not try to get me going on this subject as I said I would not mention it again.

I will break my silence on engraving I saw utube video on engraving using a pneumatic engraver. Sorry pneumatics was one of the topics I studied in school and I think it is the way to go. I think the prices they are asking for pneumatic engravers are crazy. One of these days I will visit Harbor Freight and pick up some cheap air tools to disassemble to see what I can come up with.
Maybe I will come up with something new, maybe not. All I can say is we need more of the outside the box thinking here.

Okay, it is now the fall of 2009. This still on, or is every one just reloading for the next round?
