Well hey I got this Japanese Arisaka Bayonet.  And according to here: http://www.radix.net/~bbrown/japanese_markings.html it is a type 30 with the National Denki under Kokura supervision markings.  Well I don't understand if it was a bright finish or a blued finish orginally, but am woundering if vaule wise it would be something worth refinishing or leaving as is.  What would something like this be worth these days?

Thanks for the link to my web site.

IMHO, in its current ratty condition its collector value is pretty small, say
$20-$30 or so, if that.

If it were mine, I'd use a sandpaper flapper wheel to remove the rust from
the blade followed by liberal application of CLP. Same for the rest of the
metal parts, but first cover the wood grips with something to protect
them from the abrasion. For the wood grips themselves I'd clean them
with something like 409 followed by a wood preservative.

Offered FWIW.

hey thanks, I was thinking about sometime beadblastling it and shining it up, but I know sometimes a refinish is the worse thing you can do.  What does one in good condition go for usually.

An excellent T30, with scabbard, from a common manufacturer will go for
around $100, more or less. The more uncommon the manufacturer, the
more it's worth to a collector. Unusual scabbards (rubber, wood, etc.) add
value. So do frogs.

I believe we need a Bayonet/Sword thread.

I have a few WWII items I always wanted to get an item of value. I will try to get some pictures of them soon.

Yes, do post them.  I have been a collector for 30+ years and was a dealer until the rise of the Euro.  Here are two of my favorite helmets.

I like the lions head sword.  Do you have a close up picture of the handle?

I can play, I dug up a couple pictures of some blades I had and have since sold.

DOT43 bayonet - I found 3 of these at one time in a bucket of bayonets marked $10 each about 5 years ago, one was a DOT42.  All were in very good to excellent condition.

Last ditch Jap bayonet

Here are some more helmets.  The first one is a true winter white washed droop tailed snake legged double decal luftwaffe helmet.  I still have this one.

An NSKK dispatch riders leather helmet which I sold a few years back.

Original canvas Luftwaffe pith helmet

Ok, had to add a firearm item in there.  Here is a pic of the $200 farm auction cyq P38 that I picked up with the period shoulder holster!  The pistol is in near mint condition and is an earlier Spreewerke so the fit and finish is actually pretty good.  the only problem with the holster is that it was missing the lower belt loop.  The funny thing about this one is that there was a nickel plated Ortgies up for auction too and everybody was bidding on that and hardly anyone bid on the P38.  I think the Ortgies went for over $500 (it was a junker for sure).

Here's my ugly little AC45 last ditch Walther PP.  It is ugly, the finish is awful, hardly any blue left on the slide but man is this a nice little pistol to shoot.  The wood grips have the grooves and Walther banner pressed into them.

PLEASE DO NOT USE SANDPAPER OR A SAND BLASTER ON THIS BAYONET

sure the value of the bayonet is not that great, but if you were to use an  electrolysis setup or a chemical rust remover like I use you could remove the rust without even touching it in 48 hours or less.  You could then cold blue the bayonet for your own personal display.

all without REMOVING any metal in the process.

Heck.....  if you paid the shipping both ways I would drop it in my tank to remove the rust for free.
